Let’s be honest, fantasy football can make or break your
weekend. If Penn State football loses, the Steelers lose, AND my fantasy team
loses, that is probably one of the worst weekends of the year. I check my line-ups regularly as do normal
fantasy people if they want to win. Typically I’ll do around 3-4 teams a year
and spend the same amount of time on all of them because well, I want to win
and take my friends money. I don’t normally give out fantasy advice because I
don’t want people to send me hate mail for steering them in the wrong
direction. That’s why we have Matthew Berry.
I’m going to try something new and see how it goes this
weekend; if it works and people listen to me and they win, I’ll give more
advice. If it goes horribly wrong and I make people angry, this will be my last
fantasy post.
Let’s give it a shot.
Quarterback: We
all struggle with whom to start at quarterback. It’s easily one of the toughest
decisions you’ll face during any given week. This week is no different. Peyton
Manning had a subpar performance against Baltimore last weekend having only
thrown for 175 yards. This week he’s facing another top defense in Kansas City
at Arrowhead, which is never an easy task. Flip
side, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is taking on the vaunted Tampa Bay
defense (I’m kidding) and should have success throwing it deep. Moral of the story: Start Brees, bench
Peyton.
Running Backs: Let’s
get one thing straight, Mike Zimmer DID know that Adrian Peterson was playing
last week but just chose not to give him the ball more than 10 times. I’m not
sure why, but if Peterson is going to get back into the MVP form he was in,
then he’ll need to get the ball more than 10 times against a below average
Detroit defense. And it’s his first game back at home. Flip side, Green Bay welcomes Seattle to town and that mean’s it
could be a showdown between the Packers offense and the Seahawks defense. Even
without Kam Chancellor, Seattle’s front seven is one of the best in the league
so don’t expect Eddie Lacy to get much running room. Moral of the story: Start Peterson, bench Lacy.
Tight Ends: You
can go two ways with this one; you can start Rob Gronkowski against Buffalo or
Tyler Eifert against San Diego. The Bills always play the Patriots tough but
the Pats will have had over a week to prepare for a Rex Ryan defense that
essentially shut down the Colts offense for three quarters. Eifert exploded
against the Raiders for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Flip side, even though he’ll be Tony Romo’s go-to guy now, Jason
Witten will face double coverage against the Eagles defense. Romo will look for
him but he’ll be blanketed all day. Moral
of the story: Start Gronk or Eifert, bench Witten.
Wide Receivers: I
don’t care who the Falcons are playing, I don’t care how many players are
covering Julio Jones, and I don’t care if he is just catching passes during
warm-ups, START HIM. Unless he doesn’t play, then don’t start him. Jones had a
ridiculous 9 catches for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Eagles Monday
night. I think he keeps it up this week. Flip
side, Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t play his best game last week against Dallas
and I believe that continues this week against an Atlanta team who has some
momentum coming off a win against Philly. Moral
of the story: Start Julio, bench Beckham and his hair.
Waiver Wire Warriors
(pretty catchy huh?): Packers WR James
Jones could have big day against Kam Chancellor-less Seattle secondary. If the Patriots want to open up the
passing game, RB Dion Lewis will get
plenty of touches. Dez Bryant is out; Jason Witten is going to face double coverage,
which means WR Terrance Williams
should be open. Rams WR Tavon Austin
had a big day against Seattle and should have another against Washington.
I’ll be happy to answer any other fantasy questions you
might have. Fire away!
